When we set out to create our pre-workout formulation, we wanted to focus on several primary benefits:
    Increasing energy and blood flow.
    Reducing fatigue.
    Improving muscular endurance.
    Sharpening mental focus.
To accomplish this, we scoured scientific literature and isolated natural, safe compounds that have been proven to deliver the results we want, and with clinical dosages that we can viably use.

Let’s take a look at the exact formulation.

    CAFFEINE ANHYDROUS

Caffeine is a useful pre-workout stimulant that can increase muscle endurance and strength.[1][2][3][4][5] Clinically effective dosages vary between 3 – 6 mg per kg of bodyweight.[6]

PULSE CONTAINS 350 MG CAFFEINE PER SERVING.

Considering the average adult male’s weight is about 180 pounds, this is right in the middle of the clinically effective range.[7]

    THEANINE

Theanine is an amino acid found primarily in tea that, when paired with caffeine, provides several cognitive benefits.[8][9]

Research has shown that supplementation with theanine and caffeine can:

Reduce the effects of mental and physical stress.[10]
Increase the production of nitric oxide, which improves blood flow.[11]
Improve alertness, focus, attention, memory, mental task performance, and mood.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18]
The clinically effective dosages of L-theanine in the studies cited above range between 100 – 250 mg.

PULSE CONTAINS 250 MG OF L-THEANINE PER SERVING.

    CITRULLINE MALATE

Citrulline malate is the amino acid citrulline, bound with malic acid.

We chose to use citrulline malate over its often-used counterpart, L-arginine, because it’s better absorbed, and results in higher plasma arginine levels than supplementation with L-arginine itself.[19]

Research has shown that supplementation with citrulline can:

    Improve muscle endurance.[20][21][22]
    Relieve muscle soreness.[20]
    Improve aerobic performance.[23][24]
Clinically effective dosages in the studies cited above range from 4 – 10 grams per day.[20]

PULSE CONTAINS 8 GRAMS OF CITRULLINE MALATE PER SERVING.

    ORNITHINE

Ornithine is an amino acid that, along with arginine and citrulline, plays a key role in a metabolic cycle known as the “Urea cycle.” This is the process by which the liver converts ammonia into urea, which is expelled through the urine and sweat, and it impacts physical performance capacity.

Research has shown that supplementation with ornithine can:

    Reduce fatigue in prolonged exercise.[25]
Promote lipid oxidation (the burning of fat for energy as opposed to carbohydrate or glycogen).[25]
Increase growth hormone and insulin-like growth-factor 1 production when paired with arginine. [26](And remember that PULSE contains a clinically effective dose of citrulline malate, which is converted into arginine in the body.)
The clinically effective dosages in the studies cited above were 2, and 2.2 grams per day.

PULSE CONTAINS 2.2 GRAMS OF ORNITHINE PER SERVING.

    BETA-ALANINE

Beta-alanine is a naturally occurring amino acid that limits the amount of carnosine, a dipeptide, stored in the muscles.[27] As beta-alanine levels increase, so do intramuscular carnosine levels, and this provides various performance benefits.[28]

Research has shown that supplementation with beta-alanine can:

    Reduce exercise-induced fatigue.[28][29][30][31]
    Improve anaerobic exercise capacity.[32][33][34][35][36][37]
Increase potential workload, which can lead to an increase in lean mass.[38][34][39]
A meta-analysis of 23 studies of beta-alanine supplementation that showed that clinically effective doses ranged between 2.6 and 6.4 grams per day, with a median effective dose of just over 5 grams per day.[37]

PULSE CONTAINS 4.8 GRAMS OF BETA-ALANINE PER SERVING.

It’s worth noting that a common harmless side effect of beta-alanine supplementation is a mild prickling, itching, or tingling of the skin.[40] Due to the proper dosing of beta-alanine in PULSE, you’re likely to experience this.
    BETAINE

Betaine, also known as trimethylglycine, is a compound found in plants like beets.

Research has shown that supplementation with betaine can:

    Improve muscle endurance.[41][42]
    Increase strength.[43]
Increase growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 production in response to acute exercise.[44]
The clinically effective dosages in the studies cited above range between 1.25-2.5 grams.

PULSE CONTAINS 2.5 GRAMS OF BETAINE PER SERVING.

DELICIOUS FLAVOR, AND NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS, DYES, OR UNNECESSARY FILLERS

While the clinically effective dosages of key ingredients alone puts PULSE light years ahead of other pre-workouts on the market, there’s still more that sets it apart.

    PULSE is naturally sweetened.

While artificial sweeteners may not be as dangerous as some people claim, studies suggest that regular consumption of these chemicals may indeed be harmful to our health, and that more research is needed.[45][46][47][48][49][50]

We’ve chosen to stay on the safe side and use the natural sweetener stevia, instead.

Stevia is a plant with sweet leaves, and research has shown that it can:

    Increase insulin sensitivity.[51]
    Help regulate blood glucose levels.[51][52]
    Have anti-carcinogenic properties.[53]
Decrease oxidative stress associated with eating large amounts of carbohydrates.[53]
Reduce blood pressure and inflammation in the body.[53]
    Lower bad cholesterol levels.[53]
    Protect the kidneys.[54][52]
And in case you’re worried that naturally sweetened means “horrible tasting,” you can rest easy. We’ve taken special care to ensure that PULSE tastes great, mixes well, and goes down easy.

We don’t use artificial food dyes in any of our products.

Many pre-workout drinks contain artificial dyes, known as “azo dyes,” such as FD&C Yellow #5 (also known as tartrazine), FD&C Blue #1 (also known as Brilliant Blue), FD&C Red No. 40 (also known as Allura Red AC), and others.

Like artificial sweeteners, consumption of azo dyes might not be as harmful as some claim, but there is evidence that these chemicals can cause various negative effects in the body.[55][56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63][64][65]

PULSE contains absolutely no “label stuffing” ingredients.

We have a simple standard that we live by: every active ingredient we use must be backed by published scientific literature, and must be included at clinically effective dosages.

PULSE isn’t full of cheap carbohydrate powder to give you a kick of energy.

While eating carbohydrate before training is an easy way to increase your performance, a pre-workout drink shouldn’t rely on this. You’re not looking to buy overpriced carbohydrate powder.

And that’s why PULSE contains only the bare minimum of maltodextrin necessary for taste (some amino acids are very bitter), mixability, and anti-clumping–less than 2 grams per serving. Compare this to the nearly 20 grams of properly dosed active ingredients you’re getting per serving, and you can see how little maltodextrin is actually needed in a properly formulated pre-workout drink.

Initial Use Directions: If it's your first time trying PULSE, assess your individual tolerance by mixing 1 scoop with 8-10 ounces of water or your favorite beverage and consume before working out. If you experience any non-optimum effects, stop and consult your doctor.

Regular Use Directions: Combine 1-2 scoops of PULSE with 8-10 ounces of water or your favorite beverage and consume before working out. We recommend using 2 scoops before intense workouts lasting longer than 30 minutes.
